On our 'would-be' wedding day this year, instead of exchanging vows we sat in our garden and looked up to our newly built loft conversion with complete pride. 2020 wasn't a complete mess, after all...

Our destination wedding had to be postponed to 2021. So when life gave us lemons, we made lemonade and ripped our entire roof off!

June - We took a huge delivery of wood which filled the patio in our garden. Simba (our red lab) seemed happy we didn't go away this year...until he couldn't do zoomies in the garden. We used S G Scaffolding for our home project; we highly recommend Scott & his team.

In only 2 days our team at R D Carpentry completely removed the original roof and started to cut and pitch the new one.

Within the first 4-5 days the old roof was cut off and a new pitch was up, including both front and back dormers. Our steel was supplied by Argles Metal Design; a talented Essex-based team of fabricators specialising in structural steels, general fabrication & architectural metalwork.

July - The next stage of the loft conversion saw us felt and batten in. The chimney started to take shape and we also started installing some of the cladding (below). We chose cobblestone cladding from PGR.

We ordered the windows and had these fitted (although we fitted the Velux windows ourselves). Next we knocked through the internal walls of the main bathroom and our hallway to open up the new stairwell. We also started to fit insulation in between the rafters.

August - The chimney and cladding are now complete and the roofers have almost finished tiling the roof. These tiles are machine made clay 20/20s.

September - Bearing in mind this wasn't a full time project - we worked weekends and squeezed in time around our other jobs - we achieved so much in such a short space of time.

The outside of our loft conversion is now complete (the inside is a different story...we still have our wedding to pay for!). Our plans may have changed direction this year, but we still managed to turn one of our dreams into reality.

Thank you to everyone who helped us on this journey!
